San Miguel Beermen


San Miguel Beermen 20th title, 19 in PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) and 1 in ABL (Asean Basketball League). The Philippines once again ABL Champions on Independence Day Aniversary of the Philippines. Asi Taulava the regular season MVP led the Beermen 19 points, while the finals MVP Chris Banchero and Leo Avenido the former MVP added 10 points apiece. Beermen imports J. Williams 7 points, and B. Williams 6 points. Fortuna, Hubalde and Menk combined with 9 points. Serves also as the 2nd title by country Philippines since the Philippine Patriots in inagural season of ABL.

The Ekonomiya ng Pilipinas (Philippine Economy) ["the Rising Tiger" by World Bank and "Brightest Spark" by Wales]  grew 7.8 percent in first quarter of 2013, making the fastest growing economy in East and South East Asia. FIBA Asia 3 on 3 under 18 Championship 2013

The Philippines known as the first basketball dynasty in Asia captured the first ever FIBA Asia 3x3 under 18 Championship 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. The four young men team composed of Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo de Manila, San Beda's Arvin tolentino, La Salle Greenhills' Kobe Paras and Prince Rivero. Epic run for the Philippine Team which dropped their early game versus Qatar in tune of 14-17. In urgency they beat the following teams Chinese Taipei 20-18, Syria 17-13 and Indonesia 20-13 all in close hoop skirmish to top the group with 3-1 win-loss record in Group B.

In quarterfinals the Philippines also survived a late scare moment against Japan 21-18

The semifinals was a David and Goliath hell of a fight against a China squad with an average height of sis-foot six-inches, with their tallest standing at 6' 8". The RP team pulled the tough victory with a 22-18 decider to advance to the finals.

In finals they surpassed India by three 21-19 to wrest the Gold Medal.
