I had just completed a slide show of the NBA most unbreakable records." A slide show that was dominated by Wilt Chamberlains' accomplishments.
And It just got me thinking, who is the NBA's Best Player of all time between Wilt and Jordan?

Let's start with  


Wilt Chamberlain...

For his career Wilt averaged 30.1 points, 4.4 assists, and 22.9 rebounds. He shot 54% from the field and a weak 51% from the line. But his playoff averages significantly dropped. For his career playoff averages he had 22.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 24.5 rebounds.
The 7-1 center scored 30 points in 65 straight games, 50 points in seven consecutive games, and scored 100 points in a single game. "Wilt the stilt" was simply dominating. In two games Wilt had 78 points and 43 rebounds, then turns around and drops a 58 point, 42 rebound performance.
He had career totals of 31,419 points, 4,643 assists, and 23,924 rebounds, In 1,045 games.
Wilt was an NBA champion twice (1967, 1972), NBA final MVP (1972), NBA MVP (1960, 1966, 1967, 1968), All NBA first team seven times, Second Team three times, All Defensive Team (1972, 1973), Rookie Of The Year (1960), and was inducted into the Basketball Hall Of Fame in 1978.


Michael Jordan

For Michael's career, he averaged 30.1 points, 5.3 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.35 steals on 50% shooting and 84% free throw shooting—in 1072 games.
At 6-6, the shooting guard posted higher career averages in the playoffs than in the regular season. His Best seasonal numbers were 38 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3.16 steals in the 1987-1988 season.
Jordan had career highs of 69 points, 17 assists, 18 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 10 steals (56 minutes played), all in separate games.
He Is a five time most valuable player (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998), Ten time All-NBA selection, six time NBA champion (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998), NBA defensive player of the year in 1988, nine time NBA all defensive First team, and two time NBA finals MVP.
Entering the 2002-2003 season he ranked first in NBA history scoring average at 31.0 points per game and is currently the Bulls all time leader in points scored, rebounds, assists, steals, games played, field goals made and attempted, and free throws made and attempted.
He owns the NBA record for times lead the NBA in scoring, at 10 times, and is widely regarded as the best basketball player of all time.

But who really IS the best player?
Lets do it like this...
Best points average? Wilt
Best Assists average? Jordan
Rebound average? Wilt
Games played? Jordan
Clutch play? Jordan
NBA championships? 6-2 advantage Jordan
Finals MVP? 2-1 advantage Jordan
Most dominating single game? Wilt...100 points
Most dominating season? Wilt...50.4 points and 25.7 rebounds
We could go on and on, so i'm going to kill the madness here.

My point is that if you look at the stats, and make your decision on the best player of all time solely on the stats. Wilt Chamberlain is your man , 50 point and 25 rebound averages in a single season...That's hard to beat.
But I don't care about the stats.
I don't care how great of averages you had...because the game is about winning, and although Wilt won the championship twice, Jordan won it six times.
Is it unfair?
The national media helped Jordan a lot. Not only was he in the spotlight every time he played, the time period in which he played in was far more technologically advanced than Wilts era.
In The 60s and 70s, fans couldn't watch the best players in the NBA/ABA play every night, if at all. The only way you would be able to watch Wilt play was if you went to the stadium yourself.
So I say we split this into two era's.
Wilt Is the best player of his era.
Jordan is the best player of the modern era.
Maybe if I would have had the chance to watch Wilt play, I would think differently.
But i didn't.
